Der Main-Donau-Kanal ist eine rund 171 Kilometer lange Bundeswasserstraße in Bayern, die den Main bei Bamberg mit der Donau bei Kelheim verbindet.
Der Kanal wurde zwischen 1960 und 1992 erbaut. Mit ihm entstand eine durchgehende Großschifffahrtsstraße zwischen der Nordsee bei Rotterdam und dem Schwarzen Meer bei Constanța , die über Rhein, Main und Donau verläuft. Deshalb wird der Kanal auch als Rhein-Main-Donau-Kanal bezeichnet. Zur Planungs- und Bauzeit war auch die Bezeichnung Großschifffahrtsstraße Rhein-Main-Donau üblich. Regional wird er zur Unterscheidung von seinem Vorgänger Ludwig-Donau-Main-Kanal oft einfach Neuer Kanal genannt. Die 17 Kilometer lange Scheitelhaltung, die das Mittelgebirge Fränkische Alb als die Europäische Hauptwasserscheide Rhein–Donau überquert, ist mit 406 m ü. NHN der höchste Punkt des europäischen Wasserstraßennetzes.
