Der Landkreis Leipzig ist ein 2008 im Rahmen der sächsischen Kreisreform gebildeter Landkreis im Nordwesten Sachsens. Er entstand durch den Zusammenschluss der zuvor bestehenden Landkreise Leipziger Land und Muldentalkreis .
Der Landkreis liegt südlich der kreisfreien Stadt Leipzig an der Grenze Sachsens zu Sachsen-Anhalt im Westen und Thüringen im Südwesten; Im Norden und Osten schließen sich der Landkreis Nordsachsen und südöstlich der Landkreis Mittelsachsen an.
