Bacharach wurde im Jahr 871 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Bacharach verdankt seinen Ruhm dem Weinbau und dem Weinhandel. Bereits im Mittelalter war diese Stadt als Hauptstadt der Weinlagerung am Mittelrhein, an der Nahe und im Rheingau weltberühmt. Er war einer der berühmtesten Weine.
