Nördlich der Propsteikirche befindet sich direkt am Emswehr ein markantes Gebäude, die so genannte "Große Mühle" - das heutige Christoph-Bernsmeyer-Haus. Ein Wappenstein am Giebel berichtet von einer grundlegenden Renovierung 1754, an deren Planungen der westfälische Barockbaumeister Johann Conrad Schlaun beteiligt war.
1976/1977 wurde die ehemalige Getreidemühle von dem Orden der Mauritzer Franziskanerinnen übernommen. Gründer dieses Ordens war Pater Christoph Bernsmeyer (1777-1858), der über 50 Jahre als Hilfsgeistlicher in Telgte gelebt hat. Lange Zeit diente das Christoph-Bernsmeyer-Haus als Erholungsheim für die Ordensschwestern. Heute leben dort Schwestern des Ordens Maria Stella Matutina.
Auf der rechten Uferseite am Emswehr war früher eine Öl- und Walkmühle, die um 1900 abgebrochen wurde.
