Das Bistum Magdeburg ist eine römisch-katholische Diözese in Sachsen-Anhalt und wurde 1994 errichtet. Die Bistumsgrenzen folgen bis auf einen Grenzangleich mit Thüringen den Grenzen des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt, wie sie abweichend vom heutigen Bundesland von 1947 bis 1952 bestanden. Teile des Bistums gehören deshalb heute zu den Bundesländern Brandenburg und Sachsen. Bischofskirche ist die Kathedrale Sankt Sebastian in Magdeburg. Kennzeichnend für das Bistum ist seine Situation in der Diaspora.
Hervorgegangen ist es aus dem zum Niedersächsischen Reichskreis gehörenden Erzbistum Magdeburg, das als Folge des Westfälischen Friedens mit dem Tod des Erzbischofs und sächsischen Administrators Herzog August 1680 sich auflöste.
