Der Spazierweg führt über knapp 7 km durch die kleinräumig gegliederte Landschaft über teilweise steile Berge und durch tiefe Täler, durch wunderschöne Buchenholzwälder und Wiesenlandschaften. An vielen Stellen, besonders am Altarstein, öffnen sich herrliche Ausblicke in das Begatal bis hin zum Teutoburger Wald. Der Weg erfordert wegen der Anstiege etwas Kondition. Die Burg Sternberg und der Spiel- und Rastplatz an der Stallscheune Schwelentrup laden zum Verweilen ein.
