Ursprünglich war die Kapelle Teil eines kleinen Hospitals der Zimmermannszunft.
Die Kapelle wurde Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts wiederaufgebaut und Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts erweitert. An der Außenseite weist sie zwei Portale auf: das Portal des Evangeliums, das von einem Relief der Hochzeit der Jungfrau Maria gekrönt wird, und das Portal am Fuße des Portals, das mit Kacheln und Statuen in Nischen geschmückt ist und von der Figur des Heiligen Josef überragt wird, die 1716 von Lucas Valdés entworfen wurde.
Am 12. Mai 1931 um 4 Uhr morgens wurde die Kapelle im Zuge der sozialen Unruhen nach der Ausrufung der Zweiten Republik überfallen, geplündert und niedergebrannt .
Die opulente Innenausstattung ist eine der komplexesten des sevillanischen Barocks. Das dem Heiligen Josef gewidmete Hauptaltarbild wurde zwischen 1762 und 1766 erbaut und ist ein Werk von Cayetano de Acosta.
