Alençon ist eine mit dem Regionalen Naturpark Normandie-Maine assoziierte Zugangsgemeinde.Einige französische Könige trugen den Titel Herzog von Alençon, da dieser Titel nach 1549 dem drittgeborenen Sohn des Königs gegeben wurde.
