Turing ließ seine Ersparnisse in Silber umwandeln und vergrub sie 1940 in einem Wald, aus Angst vor einer deutschen Invasion, doch der genaue Wald ist nicht sicher bekannt. 1940 kaufte Turing zwei große Silberbarren (insgesamt etwa 90 kg) und vergrub sie in einem kleinen Wald nahe Bletchley Park, um seine Ersparnisse zu schützen, falls Deutschland Großbritannien invadierte. Er erstellte kodierte Anweisungen zum Standort, hat die Silberbarren jedoch nach dem Krieg nie wiedergefunden, trotz mehrerer Versuche mit einem Metalldetektor. Die Quellen beziehen sich konsequent auf „Wälder in der Nähe von Bletchley Park“ oder „einen kleinen nahegelegenen Wald“.
