Taubenhäuser waren auf den Ägäis-Inseln und auch auf Sifnos sehr beliebt. Hier wurden Tauben gehalten, wegen des Düngers, den sie produzierten. Darüber hinaus waren die Vögel auch eine hervorragende Proteinquelle. Außerdem sind die Taubenhäuser ein schönes architektonisches Element. Leider gibt es auf der Insel nicht mehr so viele zu sehen.
