Poeldijk ist ein kirchliches Dorf in der ehemaligen Gemeinde Monster und in der heutigen Gemeinde Westland. Poeldijk hat etwa 7.110 Einwohner und liegt grob zwischen Monster, Honselersdijk, Wateringen und Den Haag. Poeldijk entstand entlang des nördlichen Damms der Gantel um das Jahr 1000. Der Name stammt von dem Wasser, das hinter dem Damm entstand, nachdem die Gantel aufgestaut wurde. Das Dorf bestand aus einer Ansammlung von Bauernhöfen entlang des Damms, und im dreizehnten Jahrhundert erhielt es eine eigene Kapelle. Die älteste Erwähnung des Namens 'Poeldiic' stammt aus dem Jahr 1280. Das Gebiet gehörte zur Herrschaft Monster und fiel unter die Pfarrei von Monster. Zu Beginn des siebzehnten Jahrhunderts wurde entlang der Wateringseweg das Landhaus Torenzicht erbaut.
