Es liegt südlich von Makkum und Piaam und nordwestlich von Ferwoude und Workum. Der Dorfkern liegt auf beiden Seiten der Dijkvaart an der Zeedijk des IJsselmeers und der ehemaligen Zuiderzee. Die Dijkvaart geht im Nordosten in die Neue Gaarstervaart über. Im Jahr 2021 hatte das Dorf 200 Einwohner. Zum Dorf gehört auch ein Teil des Weilers Angterp. Bei Gaast macht die Zeedijk eine Biegung, mit einem äußeren Deichgebiet, in Richtung Doniaburen.
