Die Pumpstation Loppersum befindet sich am Ende der Lopster Wijmers und zu Beginn des Westeremdermaar, direkt neben der N996. Das Pumpstation und die angrenzende Schleuse wurden 1991 gebaut, um den relativ steigenden Wasserspiegel als Folge des Bodensenkens durch die Gewinnung von Erdgas auszugleichen.
Das Pumpstation entwässert das Gebiet, das grob zwischen der Eemshavenweg, der Delleweg, der Bahnlinie und der Allee von Garsthuizen nach Loppersum liegt.
