Neue Pekela ist ein Ort und ehemalige Gemeinde in der niederländischen Provinz Groningen. Neue Pekela liegt sechs Kilometer östlich von Veendam. Der Ort entstand nach Alten Pekela. Der Name stammt vom Fluss Pekel A. Zusammen bilden beide Dörfer heute die Gemeinde Pekela. Die erste Erwähnung in der Geschichte des Ortes begann im Jahr 1599, als eine Gruppe von Friesen und Hollandern, vereint in der sogenannten Pekelcompagnie, Moorflächen entlang des Flüsschens Pekel A von Besitzern aus der benachbarten Stadt Winschoten kaufte. Ziel der Compagnie war das Abstechen von Torf, durch das Abgraben von Mooren, die in Ostgroningen reichlich vorhanden sind.
