Loenen ist die 'Perle der Vechtstreek'. Das Dorf entstand im 13. Jahrhundert bei Schloss Kronenburg und bestand bis zum Bau von nachkriegszeitlichen Neubausiedlungen eigentlich nur aus der Bebauung entlang der Dorpsstraat. Das Dorf zählt stolze 144 Rijksmonumenten! Links sehen Sie den Park des Landsitzes Oud Over, rechts monumentale Häuser und wunderschön bewachsene Vorgärten. Vorgärten sind Gärten, die auf der anderen Straßenseite liegen. Nur in Vreeland und Loenen sind sie zu finden.
Der Turm der gotischen Kirche stammt aus dem Jahr 1525 und ragt hoch über die Dächer hinaus. Er ist bis zu 80 cm schief, beinahe ein niederländischer Turm von Pisa.
