Architekt Karel Muller hat auf dem 35 m hohen Sprengenberg eines der bemerkenswertesten und auffälligsten Landhäuser an der Grenze von Salland und Twente realisiert: die Villa Sprengenberg. Im Volksmund wird sie als das Türmchen von Palthe bezeichnet, nach dem Bewohner, der die Villa errichten ließ. Die Villa ist nicht zu besichtigen, aber das umliegende Anwesen ist frei zugänglich. Es gehört zum Forsthaus Haarle, das seinerseits Teil des Nationalparks De Sallandse Heuvelrug ist. Der Sprengenberg verdankt seinen Namen den hier vorhandenen unterirdischen Wasserquellen. Früher war hier ein ausgedehntes Heidegebiet, heute gibt es hauptsächlich Wald. Eine Herde schottischer Highland-Rinder weidet, um die verbleibende Heide zu erhalten.
