Die Mariakapel in Gilze (Gemeinde Gilze und Rijen) besteht aus einer Backsteinmauer mit einem Satteldach. In der Nische befindet sich eine Steinfigur von Maria mit Kind.
Die Geschichte
Die Mariakapel in Gilze (Gemeinde Gilze und Rijen) wurde von den Bewohnern des Pflegeheims Sint-Franciscus aus Dankbarkeit gegründet, dass man während des Zweiten Weltkriegs verschont geblieben ist.
In Gilze gab es im Zweiten Weltkrieg viele Opfer und zerstörte Gebäude. Gilze lag in der Anflugschneise zum Flughafen Gilze-Rijen, wodurch das Dorf (unabsichtlich) von alliierten Bombenangriffen betroffen wurde.
Gründung
Dennoch blieb das Altenheim an der Kerkstraat verschont. Daher wurde damals Maria versprochen, nach dem Krieg zu ihren Ehren eine Feldkapelle zu errichten.
Enthüllung
Die Kapelle wurde am 2. Oktober 1948 consecrated.
