Die Houw ist ein kleines Viertel in der Gemeinde Het Hogeland in der Provinz Groningen. Es liegt zwischen Ulrum und Leens, südlich der N361. Die Houw befindet sich auf einem alten Geesthang, der sich in der frühen Mittelalter gebildet hat. Ab dem 9. Jahrhundert wurden auf dem Geesthang Wierden errichtet. Zwei davon liegen bei De Houw; die bewohnte Große Houw an der Nord- und Südostseite der Straße und die nun unbewohnte Kleine Houw an der Südwestseite der Straße. In der Nähe finden wir die Houwsterwierden und den Bauernhof Westerhouw. Bei De Houw wurde 1839 ein alter Schandpfahl als Grenzpfahl zwischen beiden Gemeinden aufgestellt.
