Das Ceresdorf liegt zwischen Stadskanaal und Musselkanaal in einer Knick des Kanals. Im Jahr 2020 hatte das Dorf 920 Einwohner. Das Dorf ist nach der Göttin der Landwirtschaft benannt: Ceres. Das Ceresdorf entstand als Arbeiterwohnsiedlung, als Stadskanaal nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg eine schnelle Entwicklung durchlief. In der Nähe des Dorfes befand sich ein großes Fabrikgelände von Philips. Philips ließ sich hier 1955 mit einer Fabrik für Bildröhren und später einer Fabrik für Halbleiter nieder. Auf dem Höhepunkt arbeiteten dort mehr als 3.000 Menschen. Am 18. Mai 2004 beschloss das Unternehmen, die Niederlassung in Stadskanaal Ende 2005 endgültig zu schließen.
