Mit dem Bau der Neuen Schleuse fahren mehr und größere Schiffe durch das Schleusenkomplex. Dieser größere Zustrom von Schiffen erfordert eine Verbreiterung des Hafenmunds des Schleusenkomplexes in Terneuzen. Daher wurde der Hafenmund West, auch bekannt als das Kopje von Kanada, teilweise verkürzt. Das Kopje von Kanada bleibt jedoch für Besucher zugänglich. Damit bleibt einer der schönsten Aussichtspunkte von Terneuzen erhalten.
