Die Waalsdorpervlakte liegt abgelegen. Es ist hier still. Ein idealer Ort also für die
deutsche Besatzung im Zweiten Weltkrieg, um Widerstandskämpfer vor das Erschießungskommando
zu stellen - mehr als 250 wurden hier erschossen. Zwei Denkmäler
erinnern daran: ein Betonrand mit der Aufschrift ’1940-1945’ und
dahinter vier Erschießungskreuze. Unmittelbar daneben, auf einem Hügel, steht die Bourdon-Glocke, die
jeder von den Totenansprachen im Fernsehen kennt. Bourdon bedeutet
’Bassglocke’. Es ist die größte Glocke eines Carillons.
