Einen starken Kontrast zur natürlichen Umgebung, durch die du wanderst, bildet der Gewächshausanbau rund um Bovenkarspel. Vom Rand des Streekbos aus hast du hier einen guten Blick darauf. Im Laufe der Jahre hat sich hier viel verändert, denn vor der großen Flurbereinigung 1978 war auch der Wald landwirtschaftliche Nutzfläche. Ein kleines Stück Geschichte des Gewächshausanbaus: Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts fuhren die örtlichen Gärtner noch mit hölzernen Kähnen durch schmale westfriesische Gräben zur historischen Vaarveiling, um Gemüse und Blumenzwiebeln anzuliefern. Hinter dem Bahnhof legten die Kähne an und die Ernte wurde auf den Zug verladen. Um 1970 ging dies durch den Einsatz von Lastwagen zurück. Heute werden von hier aus Millionen in Gewächshäusern gezüchtete Tulpen in die ganze Welt exportiert.
