Der Berg Kriváň befindet sich im Tatra-Nationalpark und ist ein inoffizielles Nationalsymbol der Slowakei. Mit seiner Höhe von 2494 m n.m. gehört der Kriváň zu den höchsten Erhebungen in der Slowakei und in den Karpaten. Wegen seiner besonders auffallenden Form ist der Berg Thema in verschiedenen slowakischen Mythen und Sagen und ist in dieser Hinsicht z. B. mit dem tschechischen Berg Říp vergleichbar.
