Neu-Helvetien war eine Privatkolonie des Schweizers Johann August Sutter in Nord-Kalifornien, mit Schwerpunkt etwa 120 km nordöstlich von San Francisco, die er 1839 begründete und deren letzte Teile er 1865 aufgab.
Der Begriff Neu-Helvetien wird meist ohne nähere Erklärung des Inhalts verwendet. In einem weiteren Sinn sind sämtliche zeitweise unter der Kontrolle von Johann August Sutter befindlichen Ländereien in Nord-Kalifornien gemeint. In einem engeren Sinne handelt es sich um die von ihm aufgrund einer mexikanischen Landzuweisung vom 18. Juni 1841 ausgewählten Grundstücke, die ihm am 20. Juni 1866 unter dem Titel Rancho Nueva Helvetia auch von den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika zugestanden wurden.
