The Lend Canal is a four-kilometer-long artificial waterway that runs from Lake Wörthersee to the center of Klagenfurt. For most of its length, it runs parallel to Tarviser Straße in the north. To the south, it is accompanied by Villacher Straße. In the west, the Lend Canal stretches from Europapark Klagenfurt and Minimundus along the so-called "Lendspitz" and flows into Lake Wörthersee at Schloss Maria-Loretto. Several bridges span the canal, some of which are architecturally and historically significant. The roads along the northern shore of the Lend Canal are very popular today among cyclists and inline skaters. Since it is lined by an earth embankment and therefore lies in the shade, the inner Lend is often frozen in winter and usually offers a nearby and long ice skating rink from December onwards.
