Polheim Castle, also known as Pollheim Castle, is located in the city of Wels, the second-largest city in Upper Austria, and can be traced back to the noble family of the Polheimers. The castle is among the most important landmarks of the city of Wels.
Polheim Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1237, which was likely built by the influential ruler in Wels, Albero von Polheim. The Polheimers were a noble family originating from Pollham near Grieskirchen, who acquired a significant estate complex in Wels around 1200. This complex was later interrupted by the construction of the city wall.
