The Sint-Martinus Church, like the church in Appelterre, was under the patronage of the Sint-Gertrudis Chapter of Nivelles. This Gothic church, originally a chapel, dates back to the 14th century and was built of brick and sandstone. In the 16th century, it evolved into a hall church with a pseudo-transept. For a long time, this building stood in a somewhat dilapidated state with a bleak plastered façade, but in 2016 this picturesque church was inaugurated again after a thorough restoration. Pay attention to the beautiful sandstone portico, but do not expect a grand interior; inside it is atmospheric with white walls, a lovely Stations of the Cross, a folk statue of Saint Martin, and new modern stained glass windows. On the abandoned little cemetery around the church, old graves withstand rain, wind, and sun…“Tempus fugit” … “time flies”…
