The Frankenmühle was located on the Schwalm in the Frankenmühle district, in the municipality of Schwalmtal in the district of Viersen. Above is the Mühlrather Mühle, below the Borner Mühle. The water level of the Schwalm is 43 m above sea level.
The Frankenmühle was an oil mill that gave the district of Frankenmühle its name. The name is already documented in the 13th century as a Hondschaft name. The name is also listed in the Tranchot map of 1806. A lot is known about the name, but little about the mill, apart from a few archaeological finds. The soil finds were made during the Schwalm regulation. At a depth of about one metre, around 30 oak poles were discovered, which were charred at the top. Between the piles lay pottery shards from the 11th - 14th centuries and millstone remains.
