The Selkemühle, formerly called Leimufermühle, was a mill operated by the water of the Selke, which has stood since time immemorial on the territory of Ballenstedt in the Selke Valley.
The mill was located at the exit of the Feuersteingrund directly at the foot of Anhalt Castle and belonged to the village of the same name, which became a desert at the end of the Middle Ages. On the site of the former mill, a new mill with two grinding gears was built in 1728. After it ceased operations, the mill complex was redesigned and operated as an excursion restaurant Gasthaus zur Burg Anhalt. In the GDR, the Selkemühle was used as a holiday and training home for the Deutsche Post, Halle district, and then until its closure in August 2013 as the Selkemühle country house with a public restaurant. After the closure, the buildings suffered from vandalism and metal theft. A model of Anhalt Castle, which had been exhibited at the Selkemühle since the 1930s, was secured. In 2019, the Selkemühle was sold to a couple who would like to use it for seminars and overnight stays.
