"As a more than 200-year-old farmhouse," the large boulder announces the gem of the Heimat House Wettringen at the entrance. However, the time indication only applies to part of the house; according to a scientific investigation, in which drill cores were taken from the wooden beams of the house and growth periods analyzed, the woods of the core structure date back to before 1520. The old spinning room with the attached kitchen, which was previously used as a sleeping chamber, was only added around 1800. A partition wall, like the one that today separates the originally three-aisle economic part consisting of a hallway and side stables from the living area, was not present in the past. The living area consisted of a large kitchen with an open fireplace that was directly connected to the stables.
The Heimat house "Haus Ahlers" represents the earliest form of a Westphalian farmhouse. Until 1984, the two-post house with the deeply sloping gable roof belonged to the Ahlers family in Klein-Haddorf directly at the municipal border with Ohne.
After purchase and dismantling, it was rebuilt in the Aa lowland near the church. Since 1986, the Heimat house has been intensively used as a meeting place by many local associations and the tourist association for meetings and various activities.
By the year 2000, the Heimat house was supplemented by a sheep barn, a large gabled barn, a bleaching hut, a beehive, and a bakery.
