Vechtewehr - Former oil mill

After the last tenant had given up the economic operation, the city of Nordhorn leased the property on a long-term basis from the Linksemsische Kanalgenossenschaft in 1983 and provided funds for renovation from the program for job creation measures at the time. This was intended to prevent the grain mill from the fate of the oil mill, which was demolished in 1972 to build a modern dam in its place.

During the renovation, the grinder and the turbine system in the basement were preserved.

Since 1989, the Kornmühle has been a location for cultural events such as cabaret, concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events on a central square in the city centre of Nordhorn, where the Kunstverein Nordhorn has also been represented since 2013. The Kornmühle property also houses the theatre workshop and the Atelier Sägemühle, an association of Grafschafter Bildender Künstler founded in 1979.
