Essinghausen is a village in the district of Peine, in Lower Saxony, Germany. To the north and near the village runs the A 2 motorway.
The village was first mentioned in a document in 1311 as "Esekeshusen". The name is composed of the genitive of the personal name "Esik" and the ending "hausen". Places with this naming scheme "Personenname – ing[e] – Siedlungsnamengrundwort" are referred to as the Barsinghausen type. The name changed from "Esekhusen" to "Eseckhusen" and finally to Essinghausen.
