Description by the author

The route starts at the Roode Beek visitor centre in Schinveld (where you can also eat and drink) and runs clockwise. Just under 53% of the route is on gravel roads (and sometimes on a good passable forest road). An overview of all gravel strips and their length can be found further down in this description.

It's wonderful gravel around the Schinveldse Bossen and on the nearby Teveren Heath (in Germany), with the Teveren Heath being a really nice gravel area with wide gravel paths (and even three short climbs on this route with different gradients (6 - 14%)). On this route, the Teveren Heath is visited 2 times, so the long gravel strips are scattered along the route.

Fortunately, outside these areas there are also many gravel strips that are sought on this route, namely around the valley of the Roode Beek in Germany, around the NATO air base Neuteveren (D) with an ascent in it, in the Worm valley, in the Übachtal and in the agricultural area between the Teveren Heath and the Wormdal (the gravel roads are also used here by agricultural traffic). The literal highlight are the gravel paths to the summit of the mining mountain Grube Adolf with a very steep section of about 22%! You can skip the steepest part (dead end) to the top of the mine mountain, but then you miss the beautiful view at the top.

In addition to the very steep climb on the Adolf pit and the short climbs in the Teveren Heath, there are also some climbs in the Allee Busch forest area, when leaving the Wormtal (in Rimburg) and on the plateau between Teveren and the Wormdal (the short Schelenberg).

Please note the following:
- in Übach-Palenberg you cycle over a length of 100 meters on a gravel path to a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over a railway line, this part is officially prohibited for cyclists.
- the descent from the hamlet of Wildnis to Wormdal is on an asphalt road with cut asphalt on the right, be aware of this in case of oncoming traffic!
- in the Roode Beekdal (at the beginning) and at the end in the Schinveld forests, you have to go through a gate (don't forget to close so that the wild cattle can't escape).
