Description by the author

The Leichhardt Trail follows in footsteps of the famous Australia researcher Ludwig Leichhardt (1813-1848), who was born in Sabrodt, a district of Trebatsch. In Zaue he received instruction from the pastor for admission to secondary school, which he attended shortly afterwards in Cottbus.
Ludwig Leichhardt probably walked the path named after him many times. It leads through varied natural landscapes, taking in distinctive stopping points such as Rampe 6, a former loading station for wood set amid wild forest near Byhlen. Could this path have prepared Leichhardt for his three expeditions to Australia?
The entire region his named after him – Leichhardt Land. Numerous information panels along the trail provide insights into the naturalist’s life and work.
