Discovery loop Haan city center route

The starting and ending point is at Windhövel, the westernmost end of the historic old town. From here, it initially heads south through the protected park Ville d'Eu, past Karl-August-Jung-Platz through the Musikantenviertel, one of the most sought-after residential areas in Haan.

The route now leaves the urban influenced part and leads into the secluded Ittertal. The Schaafenkotten, the Bruchermühle, and the Brucherkotten, located along the way, testify to the early industrial use of the Itter for grain processing and knife sharpening. The Casparsbroich Castle can also be admired along the way. Surrounding the 106-meter-high Sandberg, located on Hildener city territory, is a wonderful heath landscape, the largest in the Mettmann district.

After another loop through the Hildener city forest, the hiking trail leads into the landscape conservation area of Sandbachtal. Upstream, there are varied paths, some urban in nature or leading through lovely landscapes, heading back towards Gartenstadt.

The Schillerpark, an attractive natural experience in the midst of the surrounding development, marks the conclusion before immersing back into urban life. Protected buildings in the style of typical Bergisch architecture, small owner-operated shops, and cozy gastronomy invite you to take a stroll through Haan afterwards.
