With bottles, buckets, jugs, or even water guns. On June 29, everything is allowed in the Spanish town of Haro during the traditional Batalla del vino, or wine battle. The rules are simple: whoever's clothes have not yet turned rosy or purple due to being soaked in wine may be pelted with rioja.
The festival dates back to the sixth century. After the death of Felices de Bilibio, a local saint, pilgrims at the end of their journey were 'baptized' with wine.
