At this intersection is a monument for Coluche. Coluche was a great comedian in France who died way too early in 1986 from a motorcycle accident. He became super famous when he also ran as 'candidate zero' in the French presidential elections of 1980. Polls showed that he could count on a surprising 16% of the vote. However, he withdrew from the race for the presidency. He is also famous for his homeless organization Restos du Coeur. On June 19, 1986 he drove from Cannes to Grasse. Here near this spot he saw a maneuvering truck too late. He was not wearing a helmet and he tapped his head against the front fender. He was dead immediately. This well-maintained monument is a sort of pilgrimage site for motorcyclists.
