Discover all benefitsThe starting point Givet, just into France, is easily accessible via the E411 and N97 highway. Atop a hill by Givet stands Fort de Charlemont. The climbs on the route are mainly the slopes around the Meuse Valley, the valley of the Semois (in French this is spelled Semoy), and the valley of the Houille. In the French part, you will encounter many Villages Fleuris (the French take pride in their villages), and you will cycle for a long time along the Meuse on a dedicated bike path. The climb from Revin is beautiful with six hairpin turns and very nice views (and a height difference of 330 meters). The climb is known as Côte du Malgré or Mont Malgré-Tout or Mont Tranet. Eventually, the road leads to a high plateau (which is covered with forests and ferns). It is incredibly quiet on that plateau. The road on the plateau is in poor condition, but when I cycled there, the road was being repaved with new asphalt (August 2016). The descent to Linchamps is on excellent asphalt. After that, you follow the valley of the Semois and enter Belgium. Again, here, the asphalt is mostly excellent. The road towards Bellefontaine is beautiful, partly through the valley of the small river Ruaumoulin. Furthermore, it is also incredibly quiet on the roads around Willerzie and around the valley of the Houille.

The area has pleasantly surprised me and there is more to discover: following the dedicated bike path south of Revin, there seems to be a beautiful climb over a forest route just east of the village of Monthermé. Additionally, there is a paved bike path over a former railway line from Hastière to Mariembourg (http://bahntrassenradeln.de/bahneur_bel.htm#be156). Moreover, nearby are the historic cities of Dinant, Rocroi, Sedan, and Charleville-Mézières. In short, this area is worth more than just a visit.
