Agatha Christie was born as gatha Mary Clarissa Miller on 15 September 1890, into a wealthy upper middle-class family here in in Ashfield, Torquay. Novels such as "And Then There Were None" (published in 1939, as "Ten Little Niggers" and for obvious reasons renamed) were set in and around Torquay, where she was raised.
