The Bodleian Library has a copy of the Tabula Rogeriana map. The Tabula Rogeriana is an Arabic worldmap, created by the geogrpaher and mapmaker Muhammad al-Idrisi. He made the map in 1154. He made it based on 18 years of work at the court of the Norman King Roger II of Sicily.
It's a milestone in mapmaking because it is a realistic map of what was known about the world at that time (12the century).
You will notice from the map that the north is down.
Ten manuscript copies of the Tabula Rogeriana currently survive.Two are in the Bibliothèque nationale de France, including the oldest, dated to about 1300. Another copy, made in Cairo in 1456, is in the Bodleian Library in Oxford.
