The Wangen-Bellermont Castle is located in the Sarntal Valley of South Tyrol in the municipality of Ritten. It was built in the years following 1209 and was completed by 1237 at the latest. The builders were the noble family of Wangen, trusted men of the bishops of Trento. However, for most of the year, the family did not live in Wangen-Bellermont Castle, which bears its name, but mostly in the smaller Ried Castle, which is more conveniently located and closer to Bolzano, or the nearby Runkelstein.
