Did you know that the famous borough of Brooklyn is named after Breukelen. Breuckelen in New York was founded in 1646 under director Willem Kieft. The town grew into the capital of the five Dutch villages in Brooklyn, with the administration for the villages that did not have their own administration, and a rear admiral for all five villages. Breuckelen is the namesake of the borough of Brooklyn in New York City. The original Brooklyn is now known as Brooklyn Heights.
