The oldest mention of Het Enzerinck dates back to the fourteenth century. There was then a gentleman's farm. Around 1770 Rudolph Jan Staring, mayor of Zutphen, owned the farm. He had a country house built against the farm. His daughter, Anna Aleida Staring, also made frequent use of the house. She was married to Eberhard Alexander Verhuell . Their eldest son, Maurits, would later look back in childhood memories of the time he spent at Het Enzerinck.
