Polders, dikes, floods, nestled hidden houses in the greenery, slumbering church villages and picturesque yacht harbors, narrow, winding paths through the dune area, and as a crowning glory, the beautiful medieval town of Goedereede, once the residence of the only Dutch pope, Adrian VI.
All this briefly summarizes the atmosphere of the originally separate islands of Goeree and Overflakkee. By the way, as late as the 15th century, Overflakkee also consisted of several small islands.
The first part of the trip heads east.
Lunch, for example, comfortably at the harbor of Oude Tonge.
In the afternoon, the journey heads west again, and you cross the dune area of Goeree.
If you have a little time, take a short walk through the medieval gem of Goedereede.
