This route is part of the 7 Summits, the seven steepest peaks in South Limburg. It is a circular walk of 5.9 km with a maximum height of 252 meters. Near the southernmost point of our country, above the valley of the Terzieterbeek where rocks from the Upper Carboniferous come to the surface and the alpine water salamander occurs, lies the Upper Forest.

At the highest point, the borders of the Netherlands, Flanders and Wallonia come together, so actually a kind of three-country point in Limburg. On the Belgian side of the border, at Beusdael Castle towards Teuven, ran the infamous Death Wire, an electrical wire barrier of two thousand volts, in the First World War. On the way there you are focused on the dark forest to the top, but the panoramas on the way back are breathtaking. The half-timbered houses in the valley complete the mountain experience. And that name Hakkenberg? The Upper Forest was used for coppice. The path that leads from Terziet up to the top is still called Hakkenbergerpad. Please note, this route is not signposted.
