Near the site of the former shipyards (nowadays they are on the other bank of the river) stands a gigantic sundial.
Vila do Conde is a city associated with the Portuguese discoveries . In the shipyards of the city were built ships, caravels... that crossed the seas in search of new worlds. At that time, navigators were equipped with the most diverse instruments for orientation and navigation , such as compasses, astrolabes... And also the sundial, which made it possible to measure the passage of time.
Despite its size, not everyone realizes that it is a clock. If you want to see it better, go to the Capela do Socorro. From there, the view is privileged and you can better understand how this clock works.
