En esta piedra caliza plegada se puede ver que las rocas cerca de Bramberg han sufrido mucho. Esta gran presión surgió con la formación de montañas alpinas en el Paleógeno y Neógeno, también llamada orogénesis alpina.
La orogénesis ocurrió porque los continentes de África e India, junto con una serie de microcontinentes, se desplazaron hacia el norte, colisionaron con Eurasia y cerraron el océano de Tetis. Se formó toda una serie de cadenas montañosas: en Europa, los Pirineos, los Alpes, los Cárpatos y los Alpes Dináricos; en Anatolia, el Tauro, el Cáucaso y el Ponto; y en el sur de Asia, el Zagros, el Hindu Kush, el Karakorum y el Himalaya. Estas montañas juntas se denominan cinturón montañoso alpino.
