Houthem es una aldea en el oeste de la provincia belga de Henao y una subcomuna de Komen-Waasten. Es una aldea rural, a unos tres kilómetros al norte del centro de Komen. La mención más antigua de Houthem data del año 1105. Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, Houthem fue destruido. Al establecer la frontera lingüística en 1963, Houthem fue clasificado como francófono con facilidades lingüísticas para la minoría de habla neerlandesa, como resultado de esto, el entonces aún independiente municipio de la provincia de Flandes Occidental fue transferido a Henao. En 1977, el municipio de Houthem se integró en el municipio fusionado de Komen-Waasten.
