El lunes 24 de agosto, el joven Georges Hancotte, al final de la tarde, llega a pie desde Franière a Floreffe. Justo antes del bosque de Nangot hay dos bloques de casas separados por un callejón estrecho. Georges ve allí a unos soldados franceses y quizás les hable? No lo sabemos... Al llegar aquí, a los pies de la Abadía, se detiene para dejar pasar a una patrulla alemana de jinetes. Estos probablemente han notado a los franceses y un suboficial alemán le pregunta a Georges si ha visto soldados franceses... Él responde que no... Por esa mentira, el alemán saca su pistola y simplemente mata a Georges. Son las 5 de la tarde. Esta cruz nos recuerda este trágico evento.
