ÁRBOL DEL AÑO 2021
El árbol de mamut es el símbolo del antiguo Colegio San José que hoy se ha convertido en el Colegio Nuestra Señora de Bonlieu.
Se encuentra en la entrada principal del edificio y ha visto pasar a miles de alumnos camino a la escuela. Este majestuoso árbol también es el telón de fondo de varias fotos grupales y es representado en una cómic de un autor simbólico de Gaume, Jean-Claude Servais.
Para Virton, el árbol de mamut es un árbol importante porque esta especie le dio a la ciudad en el pasado una vista espléndida, pero hoy en día solo existen unos pocos: el árbol del Parque Foncin, el del alcalde, M. Culot y, por supuesto, el árbol del Colegio.
En el sitio hay otros árboles que merecen la atención necesaria: un notable tilo, una imponente haya morada, un huerto que es un vestigio de la escuela agrícola y que fue mantenido y rejuvenecido por el equipo pedagógico, árboles de nuez y avellana, y un joven seto que fue plantado en 2020 por alumnos para promover la biodiversidad alrededor del Colegio.
